We arrived at Symi on a warm, sunny day in May. The island made a magical first impression on us! I got truly stunned by the colorful neoclassical mansions I mentioned in my previous blog. My heart started beating really quickly; I was sure that we had made the perfect choice. However, I was a bit anxious about the beaches, mostly because of the kids. In pictures they looked magnificent, but I wanted to see them for myself.

Nos Beach
Since we were a bit tired after the journey to Symi, we chose Nos Beach for our first swim. Just a short walk from the harbor, Yialos, it offers the ideal option with shallow and calm waters. The kids enjoyed their time swimming and playing along this pebbly shore while we found the perfect spot to relax.
St. George Bay
The next day, after a refreshing night’s sleep, we headed to St. George Bay. The fact that it is accessible only by boat (like many other beaches here) made it the perfect escape, as we enjoy being away from the crowds and immersing ourselves in nature. A tip! If you also decide to come here, don’t forget your snorkeling gear: the rich marine life and the underwater view will fascinate you!
Pedi Beach
Another beautiful spot that we visited is Pedi Beach, which offers natural shade thanks to the trees that meet the sea. The beach is perfect for those who are not so strong swimmers. The blue waters combined with the lush greenery definitely rewarded us. This beach is well-organized offering umbrellas, sunbeds and there are also great traditional tavernas.

Marathounda Beach
Of course, we didn’t miss Marathounda Beach, one of the most famous beaches on the island. It has a pebbly shore and is surrounded by rugged terrain. It’s ideal for swimming and relaxation thanks to the turquoise waters and the traditional tavernas offering fresh seafood and Greek delights. The highlight of the day was the goats that were wandering around the beach, which the kids adored!
Agia Marina Beach
We also visited Agia Marina, a sandy well-organized beach with umbrellas, sunbeds and local cuisine, a perfect choice for families. Finally, we swam in Nimborio (or Emborios), which is accessible by car, by boat, a small train or on foot.
Symi’s beaches, whether pebbly or sandy, remote or crowded, organized or not, accessible by boat, car, or on foot, offer the perfect blend of relaxation, exploration, and natural beauty. Whether you like swimming in the crystal-clear waters or enjoying the delicious dishes of the traditional tavernas, Symi’s beaches are an unmissable part of the island’s appeal.
